After becoming a licensed barber in 1975, John Potter worked and traveled all over California before falling in love with Chico and establishing Barber John's in 2008. What was once a one man owned and operated shop quickly grew into the go-to destination for college students and professionals who wanted to get a quality haircut.

Since 2020 Barber Johns has been owned by Tammie and Walter Barbee. Tammie has been a close friend and employee of Barber Johns since 2013.
